PHNOM PENH – An interim observation team from ASEAN has conducted inspections in the areas impacted by recent clashes along the Cambodia-Thailand border, following the establishment of a ceasefire agreement. This was confirmed by Maly Socheata, Undersecretary of State and spokesperson for Cambodia's Defence Ministry.
The delegation included the Malaysian military attaché, representing the current ASEAN chair, along with assistant military attachés from Vietnam and the Philippines. Socheata stated, "Cambodia remains committed to collaborating with the Malaysian-led observation team to ensure effective monitoring of the ceasefire implementation."
Tensions escalated on July 24 when armed confrontations broke out between Cambodian and Thai soldiers in border regions. The two countries reached an immediate and unconditional ceasefire agreement on July 28, which came into effect at midnight the same day, halting hostilities and paving the way for peaceful resolution efforts.
