BACOLOD City – In a recent initiative to bolster educational opportunities for Indigenous Peoples (IP) in Negros Occidental, 166 students from Isabela, Binalbagan, and Himamaylan City were granted a combined total of P1.1 million in educational assistance. These beneficiaries, encompassing both elementary and high school levels, each received P6,750 to support their schooling expenses for the academic year spanning nine months.

The fund distribution took place within the respective local government units (LGUs) as part of the Educational Assistance for IPs’ Basic Education (EAIBE) program. This initiative is overseen by the Negros Occidental Scholarship Program Division (NOSPD) and aims to provide targeted aid to Indigenous communities.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson expressed his encouragement to the young recipients, emphasizing his confidence in their capabilities to overcome obstacles and positively impact their communities. He stated, "With the right support and opportunities, you can achieve your dreams and help uplift your families and fellow IPs."

Lacson reaffirmed the provincial government’s dedication to advancing the welfare of Indigenous Peoples by ensuring they have access to quality education and equitable development opportunities.
