LONDON — Nearly three years after its original launch, the Netflix series Wednesday returns with its second season, broadening the Addams Family narrative. The new season had its premiere at London’s Westminster, highlighted by a purple carpet event at Central Hall and the Queen Elizabeth II Centre attended by the cast and creative team.

Jenna Ortega reprises her role as Wednesday Addams, now hailed as a hero at Nevermore Academy — much to her own frustration. The spirited teenager dives back into detective work, uncovering fresh supernatural enigmas while struggling to control her faltering psychic abilities.

Adding to her challenges, Wednesday must navigate family dynamics as her younger brother Pugsley, portrayed by Isaac Ordonez, begins his education at Nevermore. Meanwhile, their parents appear more frequently on campus, increasing Wednesday’s pressure. "She’s kind of knocked off her feet this season. So it’s a lot of pressure," Ortega commented.

Show creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar described the new season as "bigger and better," with an expanded focus on the Addams family. "There’s more of the Addams Family this season," Gough explained. "We learn more about the characters introduced in Season One and explore their individual storylines."

New additions to the cast include Steve Buscemi as Barry Dort, the principal of Nevermore, and Joanna Lumley portraying the family matriarch, Grandmama Hester Frump. Pop icon Lady Gaga also makes a special guest appearance as a teacher in the second part of the season.

Millar highlighted the season’s emphasis on mother-daughter relationships: "It’s about mothers and daughters, featuring three generations of Addams women. The series also explores Wednesday’s journey in relinquishing control, alongside themes of female friendship and sisterhood."

Jenna Ortega, who is 22, steps into a dual role as lead actress and executive producer, a position she describes as offering her "freedom" rather than control. Emma Myers, who plays Wednesday’s roommate Enid Sinclair, praised Ortega as a supportive leader, saying, "She’s the cast spokesperson. Whenever anything needed to be addressed, she was always approachable and ready to collaborate. She truly looks out for us."

Notably, filmmaker Tim Burton returns as both director and executive producer for the second season.

Wednesday Season Two will be released in two installments of four episodes each, with the first part premiering on August 6 and the second on September 3.
