UST Tigresses Clinch UAAP Season 88 Women’s Basketball Championship with Comeback Win Over NU
The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigresses reclaimed the UAAP Season 88 women's basketball championship following a commanding 79-64 victory against the National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday. After dropping the first game of the finals series and suffering a 14-0 sweep during the elimination round, UST rallied to complete a reverse sweep and secure the title.
This triumph marks UST’s second championship in three seasons, having previously ended NU’s seven-year dominance in UAAP women’s basketball during Season 86. Although NU recaptured the crown last season, the Tigresses have now reestablished themselves as the top team.
UST’s standout player Kent Pastrana capped her collegiate career with an impressive performance, contributing 16 points, nine rebounds, five assists, five steals, and one block. Meanwhile, Oma Onianwa added 15 points and seven rebounds to help lead UST to victory.
