Carla Abellana, renowned actress and staunch advocate for animal welfare, was moved to tears after she gave a proper burial to a Filipino native dog (aspin) victimized by a hit-and-run incident in Quezon City. In an emotional video shared on her Threads account over the weekend, Abellana detailed the distressing scene she encountered.

"Unfortunately, the hit-and-run victim had already passed away. I could tell as the dog was lying by the gutter with a pool of blood around its mouth. It was stiff and unmoving," she explained.

She further shared her decision to give the animal a respectful farewell, noting that the driver appeared to have dragged the dog to the roadside. Thankfully, Abellana had blankets and pillows in her vehicle, which she used to prepare the aspin for burial.

"The dog was brown, medium-sized, and wore a collar, indicating it likely had an owner. I doubt the owners are aware of its passing, so I felt compelled to ensure the dog received a proper burial," the actress said, referencing the recent observance of National Aspin Month on August 18.

Expressing deep sorrow over the plight of stray animals, Abellana lamented, "I feel heartbroken whenever I see strays that are malnourished, sick, frightened, neglected, or victims of accidents while I am on the road."

She appealed to the public to move beyond merely documenting the suffering of strays online. "You can make a difference. Don't just take pictures or videos and ask for help; be the help these animals need," she stressed.

Abellana has previously rescued and adopted an aspin that survived a similar hit-and-run, reinforcing her dedication to animal welfare.

Her heartfelt message serves as a poignant reminder of the responsibility to protect vulnerable animals and act compassionately in their defense.
