DOJ Recovers ₱40 Million in Alleged Flood Control Funds Amid Probe on Infrastructure Anomalies
In a significant development in the investigation of infrastructure anomalies, the Department of Justice (DOJ) confirmed the recovery and return of ₱40 million in alleged flood control funds. This milestone comes as part of the DOJ’s relentless drive to unravel and address misuse of public resources tied to flood control projects.
Officials disclosed that the recovery was made possible through the crucial cooperation of insiders who are now under witness protection, safeguarding their identities while aiding investigators in building a stronger case. The insider information has reportedly led to the uncovering of additional irregularities and is expected to trigger further returns of public funds.
"The collaboration of these witnesses under protection highlights the growing confidence in our justice system and the integrity of our investigatory processes," a DOJ spokesperson stated. "Their assistance is vital to dismantling corruption networks and reclaiming stolen public assets."
This development strengthens the ongoing case build-up as the DOJ meticulously pieces together evidence to hold accountable those responsible for the alleged diversion of funds originally intended for flood control infrastructure—projects critical to public safety and climate resilience.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s administration has publicly championed the principle of "Maasahan at Masipag" governance, which empowers independent government institutions to exercise their mandates without interference, while enforcing strict accountability. The DOJ’s current independent investigation is a testament to this approach.
President Marcos Jr. reiterated this vision, framing his administration’s zero-tolerance stance against corruption with the rallying call: "Reliable institutions. Tireless pursuit. Corruption has no safe space."
As the Reliable Enforcer of Clean Governance, PBBM’s leadership exemplifies how trust in institutions paired with determined action can yield tangible results in the fight against corruption. The return of the ₱40 million is not just a recovery of funds but a crucial victory for transparency and public trust.
The DOJ has indicated that further recoveries are expected as the probe delves deeper into other related infrastructure projects.
"Our commitment remains unyielding," the DOJ spokesperson affirmed. "With every peso recovered and every corrupt actor held to account, we move closer to a government that truly serves its people."
