Fire Destroys 30 Houses in Lapu-Lapu City’s Barangay Buaya
On Monday, November 17, 2025, a fire ravaged approximately 30 houses in Zone 1, Barangay Buaya, Lapu-Lapu City. Lapu-Lapu City Fire District Superintendent Arnel Abella revealed that their preliminary investigation indicated the fire originated from the residence of Jerry Godinez, where upholstery materials such as fabric and foam were stored.
However, Superintendent Abella emphasized that the exact cause of the blaze remains under investigation. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties resulting from the incident.
The fire was first reported at 10:50 a.m. and was raised to a second alarm before being brought under control by 12:03 noon. Firefighters from neighboring Mandaue City and Cordova also responded to assist in containing the fire.
Abella noted that the firefighting efforts were hindered by the densely packed area filled with houses constructed from flammable light materials, as well as limited access routes to the affected location.
Authorities are still assessing the total extent of the damage caused by the fire.
This incident follows two recent fires in Lapu-Lapu City: a blaze that consumed a pharmacy and bakery in Barangay Poblacion, and another that destroyed a house in Barangay Marigondon.
